TRAINING :
The Digital Agenda for Tanzania Initiative DA4TI in support of the implementing partner Internews, under RFA Infuse initiative has conducted training to the Staff of DA4TI, significantly enhancing the organization’s digital security capabilities. Leveraging the expertise from Internews’ Infuse project, the initiative delivered specialized training to DA4TI staff, updated internal security policies, and implemented new security tools.
This training addressed critical gaps in digital security skills and infrastructure identified by Infuse digital protectors.
The overarching aim of the training was to strengthen DA4TI’s ability to protect Tanzanian communities from digital threats through immediate and impactful actions. Enhanced security protection measures are critical to ensuring organization and staff are safe, especially this year, where local elections will be conducted in November 2024.
The training was carried out on 21-22 October by Serensic Africa, a company based in Tanzania, a leading cybersecurity company with 10 years of experience protecting businesses across Africa and delivering cutting-edge security solutions, expert consulting, and specialized training to help organizations stay secure in an evolving digital landscape.
The two days event capacitated DA4TI to address significant issues in digital security within DA4TI and its partner organizations. The key topics presented by the identified digital protector included ‘How to Protect staff and the organization from Cyber Attacks’, ‘Unleashing security as an organization culture’, topics that were covered on day one and two respectively.
All these addressed insufficient digital security expertise among DA4TI staff who lacked advanced digital security skills necessary to handle sophisticated threats.
In consideration of this year’s local elections in November 2024 in Tanzania and the role of digital spaces in informing the communities about their rights to civic participation and other rights, DA4TI felt the need to tackle various online threats.
Proactive security measures were necessary to bridge the outdated digital policies gap considering existing internal security policies were not aligned with current best security practices.
The project thus rightly served the intended purpose of sealing these gaps through targeted staff training, policy updates, and the implementation of recommended security tools.
